Proximity, with Bryce Dessner & David Chalmin

Proximity, De Toonzaal, Den Bosch (NL), Netherlands

5 Dec 2024

With Proximity, we present a unique project where music, space, and technology come together. Here, we compose not only in terms of time but also for a spatial sculpture specifically designed for De Toonzaal and the Willem Twee studios. We are thrilled to collaborate with Bryce Dessner and David Chalmin to create new material especially for Proximity—featuring guitar loops, drones, field recordings, and electronic synths.

By combining sound, space, and interaction, Proximity creates a dialogue between people, the live music performed by David, and the concert hall. The listening experience is tailored to how people perceive their surroundings, in 3D sound and visuals.

To make this possible, we are currently developing new software and an audio interface in our studio lab, called “the cockpit”. This instrument enables the live creation and performance of such a musical work. Special thanks to Maarten van Damme (Racoon, The Jaydees) for his contributions to its development.

Start: 20h30
